Teacher wellbeing has strong influence on effective teaching within the classroom and plays a critical part in student wellbeing. In order to achieve good teacher wellbeing it is important to attend to personal inner wellbeing. As part of a healthy whole self, it is crucial that a healthy mind is supported by a healthy lifestyle and healthy body. Good health and nutrition are key principles in ensuring positive teacher wellbeing (Wellbeing Australia, 2014).

“Believe it or not you have probably have eaten at least 20 000 meals in your life” (Whitney et al., 2011). Nutritious food choices support healthy bodies and minds; and without any conscious effort on your part the nutrients in your chosen meals are used by the body to defend itself from disease and fuel all its activities (Whitney et al., 2011). However, carelessness about food choices can result in chronic health problems, diet related issues and diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity and cancer (Australian Government, 2013).
