1. It is a fantastic stress reliever. Research has been conducted over the past few years which has outlined that just under 1/3 of new teachers quit before completing their 5th year of teaching due to stress. A survey conducted by Ken Mrozek suggests that around about the same amount of teachers, whether they are new or experienced state that teaching is a very stressful job.
2. It has been known to strengthen the immune system. Being around children all day exposes teachers to an enormous amount of bad bacteria which may lead to sickness. If a teacher can look after their immune system by exercising, they can accumulate unused sick leave which in turn leads to early retirement. Did someone say sipping martini's on the beach??
3. It increases brain stimulation which sharpens thinking skills. With exercise comes an increase in blood flow to the brain, which will help teachers stay focused when having to deal with the numerous questions and dilemmas that students tend to throw at them every day.
4. It makes us happy. Do you remember all of those grumpy teachers at school?? They were generally the ones who you hated and didn't really listen to! Endorphin's are released during exercise which can cut back on depression and other psychological worries. And lets face it, if they are hanging around ratbag kids all day, teachers need all the endorphin's they can get!
5. It not only enhances our figure, but also our skin and hair. The increase in blood being pumped around the body results in a healthier appearance. Skin, body fat, muscle mass and hair all improve when exercising. These enhancements will help anyone to feel better about them-self. When a person's self-image improves, so does their mood.
